Post Office Mortgages

18/12/2007

The Post Office is at present conducting tests with Bristol & West mortgages to see if a mortgage product will work among homeowners.

The offer follows a three-year fixed-rate mortgage at 6.09 per cent, in-conjunction with a standard variable rate of 7.24 per cent (SVR), including a £399 arrangement fee, with total fees adding to £884.

New data indicates that you can get an enhanced offer searching in the right places. For example, you might want to move to another property and to make this move, need to borrow £150,000 over 15 years on a property worth £375,000. New group Giraffe Money offers a 3-year fixed rate deal at 5.68 per cent with £445 fees.

Looking at both mortgage deals, it could be a good idea to remortgage after three years to steer clear of paying the lender's costly standard variable rate. Choosing a 15-year deal could be worth while, Manchester Building Society offer a three-year fixed rate at 6.09 per cent.
